Easter at Hope
From surrendered trust to Spirit-empowered life, the story of Easter shows how God forms and sends his people.
Empowered Surrender – Good Friday
In Gospel of Luke 23 we see Jesus at the cross, where a life of perfect obedience culminates in complete surrender. Echoing the suffering servant of Isaiah 53 and the anguish of Psalms 22, Jesus entrusts himself fully to the Father. What looks like weakness is actually a profound display of power — the power to trust God completely.
The cross shows us the shape of a disciplined life with God. It leads to surrender: letting go of control, outcomes, and certainty, and placing our lives in God’s hands. In God’s kingdom, power is revealed not through force, but through trust. As we follow Jesus, we learn that surrendered lives become the very place where God’s Spirit works.
Empowered Life – Easter Sunday
In Gospel of Luke 24:44–49 the risen Jesus appears to his disciples and opens the Scriptures to them, showing how everything pointed to him — even the promise found in Psalm 110. Yet the resurrection does not immediately send the disciples out on mission.
Instead, Jesus tells them to wait.
Before they become witnesses, they must first receive the power of the Spirit. The risen Christ forms a waiting people before sending a witnessing people. Their task is not to rush ahead, but to remain expectant, trusting that God will empower them for what comes next.
This is the culmination of the Lent journey: rhythms that shape us, surrender that forms us, and ultimately a life empowered by God’s Spirit to carry the good news to the world.
