Building Hope

Welcome to the page dedicated to the Building Hope page, where we are pumped to share the latest updates on our ongoing Presbyterian building projects. Over the years the updates of this exciting journey have enabled us to we reflect on the completed Sano Diyo, West Melton, and Rolleston builds with immense gratitude, acknowledging the provision and faithfulness of God throughout these endeavours.

The completion of these projects marks a significant milestone, made possible through the generosity and support of our community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who have played a role in bringing these visions to life. It is with deep appreciation that we recognize the God’s provision that has guided us every step of the way.

While celebrating these achievements, we also acknowledge the reality of our outstanding financial commitments. To honour the interest-free loans that have been crucial to the completion of these projects, we aim to raise further funds and we ask for your continued prayer and practical support as we look to fulfil these obligations sustaining the positive momentum we have built. As we navigate the next steps it is important to pause and take stock of God’s leading so far, and we look for Him to lead us into meeting these obligations.

Looking ahead, we set our sights on the next stage of our mission – the upkeep and refreshment of our Hope sites. We envision spaces that not only serve our immediate community but also inspire and uplift all who enter.

Thank you for being an integral part of the Building Hope journey and we invite you to have a read through the documents on this page.

With thanks,

Steve Talbot

Building Hope - The History

Hope Presbyterian embarked on a major building programme a few years ago in response to what we felt was God’s call.

The first wonderful opportunity was partnering with a church in the United States to build an orphanage in India. We felt privileged to resource our global partners in the mission God has called them to in that part of the world. It was wonderful stepping into the building programme by looking outside of our immediate vicinity to meet a need within the wider global body of Christ. The building there is now completed with close to 50 children being housed.

Secondly, in response to significant and on-going growth at West Melton and Rolleston, we established a building project at each of the West Melton and Rolleston sites.

We are pleased to report that the West Melton project was completed in January 2022, and we have since received resource consent to take the Rolleston build to the next stage. We are so thankful to God who continues to provide, with the resourcing to date coming from the Hope community, Alpine Presbytery Mission Fund and PressGo, alongside other forms of funding.

The purpose of both of these buildings has been to focus on supporting mission to families in these areas. There is an overwhelming need for multi-function rooms that support the vast social needs in the community. Alongside this, Hope Rolleston needs space to cater and care for a multi-aged congregation.

Pick-a-Project

Pick-a-Project has been designed to help raise funds for our new Rolleston Church Build.

This is how it works: Say Bob has a job that is in need of attention. We advertise his “Job“. If Ara sees this Job and has the skills and time needed she contacts Bob and makes arrangemets to complete the job. Once the job is completed Bob donates the agreed amount of money to the Church Building account and everyone wins!

Alternatively, if someone has useful skills and is willing to help someone else they we will advertise the “Skill”. If a person needs someone with these skills they can make contact, discuss details and arrange for the work to be done. After this they will make a donation to the Church Building Fund.
